What Package IN-06 actually builds

Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation has opened bidding on the underground stretch of the Indore line. The package covers an elevated viaduct, a twin tunnel driven by shield tunnel boring machine, a cut and cover tunnel, a mid ventilation cum emergency egress shaft, crosspassages, ramps, and two underground stations at Bengali Chauraha and Palasia Chauraha, with architectural finishing included in the same contract.

Read the sequence rather than the list. A ramp takes the alignment down from the viaduct, cut and cover carries it through the shallow section, and the TBM takes over for the bored length between the two stations. The egress shaft and crosspassages are the safety spine between the two tubes. One contractor carries all of it, which is why the bid validity runs 180 days and the document set fills eight volumes and 179 MB.

This is a heavy civil job for contractors who already own or can mobilise a tunnelling spread. Shield TBM work is a small club in India, and the qualifying bidder is usually a large EPC firm or a joint venture that pairs a tunnelling partner with a station builder. If you are that firm, the bid window is generous: submissions open 8 October and close 19 October 2026, with opening the next day at Bhopal.

For everyone else the opportunity sits one level down. Cut and cover, ramps, station boxes and the architectural finishing all get packaged out to subcontractors, and a metro contract of this length runs for years. Machine owners near Indore should be tracking the winner rather than the tender.

Plant that turns up on an underground metro job

Behind the TBM there is a conventional fleet doing conventional work. Diaphragm wall and piling rigs sink the station boxes. Long reach excavators and backhoe loaders strip and trim inside the cut and cover, and a tipper cycle moves muck out through a city that will not tolerate spillage. Cranes handle segment rings, struts and station steel, and gantry cranes work the shaft heads.

Concrete governs the programme. A dedicated batching setup, transit mixers and boom pumps feed the base slabs and the secondary lining, and compactors close out the backfill and the road reinstatement above. Because this is city centre work at two busy chaurahas, night working, traffic decking and dust control are part of the cost rather than an afterthought.
