Ahmedabad Metro Tender: 4.97 km Viaduct and Five Stations, Phase-2A

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation has floated a ₹879.27 crore Ahmedabad metro tender covering 4.97 km of elevated viaduct, five stations and a twin cut and cover tunnel, closing 28 September 2026.

What Phase-2A actually asks for

This package runs from the Koteshwar Road dead end to the start of the underground ramp. Along that 4.97 km the contractor builds the elevated viaduct and four elevated stations at Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River and Sardar Nagar. Then the work goes below ground: 1.01 km of twin cut and cover tunnel between the ramp and the dead end, the ramp itself, and one underground metro station. Design sits with the bidder on the underground stretch, so this is not a pure build to drawing job.

The document set is unusually complete for a tender this size. Twenty seven files are up, including separate engineering requirement volumes for the elevated and underground sections, technical specifications split into civil, architectural and public health engineering, tender drawings and a soil testing report. GMRC has also put the priced bill of quantities out as its own volume. A bidder can price the job properly before committing the deposit rather than guessing at ground conditions.

Who should be looking at this

An ₹879.27 crore metro package with 180 day bid validity is EPC territory. You need a track record in elevated viaduct work, segment casting and cut and cover tunnelling, plus the balance sheet to carry a job of this length. The earnest money deposit is ₹8,79,00,000, which works out to almost exactly 1 per cent of the estimate, and the tender fee is ₹50,000. EMD exemption is allowed, so check whether your registration category qualifies before you block the money.

For machine owners the interest is in what a metro corridor consumes over three to four years. Cut and cover work in a built up part of Ahmedabad means deep excavation next to live roads, and that keeps a fleet busy well beyond the main contractor.

Piling rigs and rotary drills open the account on the viaduct foundations. Crawler cranes and launching girders handle pier caps and segment erection. The underground stretch needs long boom excavators for the cut, sheet pile and shoring gear to hold the sides, and a steady run of tippers to clear muck. A batching plant near site feeds transit mixers and concrete pumps for both the viaduct and the tunnel box. Add hydra cranes, dewatering sets and night lighting, because road level work near Ashram Road will get pushed into low traffic hours.
