Bihar AMRUT 2.0 water supply tenders across five towns

Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation is taking bids on five town water supply schemes under AMRUT 2.0, worth ₹761.24 crore together, with deadlines running from 14 to 28 September 2026.

The five towns are Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Khagaria, Lakhisarai and Kishanganj. Each is a separate item rate contract with its own tender ID, earnest money and closing date, so a contractor can take one town without bidding for the others. Package sizes run from ₹50.27 crore to ₹219.65 crore, which puts them within reach of regional firms rather than only national ones.

What an AMRUT 2.0 water supply scheme involves

These are full town schemes rather than single structures. The typical scope covers a source works and intake, a treatment plant, overhead and ground level reservoirs, a rising main, the distribution network through the town and household connections at the end of it.

Most of the contract value and almost all of the site difficulty sits in the distribution network. Laying pipe through an existing Bihar town means working in narrow lanes, around live services, with traffic and shopfronts on both sides. Progress is measured in short runs rather than long open stretches, and reinstatement of the road surface behind you is part of the job.

Kishanganj at ₹50.27 crore is the smallest of the five and the natural entry point for a contractor building a record with BUIDCo. It also closes first, on 14 September.

Who these suit

Earnest money runs at roughly one per cent across all five, and payment is accepted through the internet payment gateway, challan or bank guarantee. Bid validity is 120 days and withdrawal is not allowed once submitted, so price carefully before you commit.

The bidders are water supply contractors registered in Bihar with pipeline and reservoir experience. For plant owners across north Bihar the interest is steadier than a single large contract: five towns starting within weeks of each other means sustained demand for trenching and small earthmoving plant spread across Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Khagaria, Lakhisarai and Kishanganj rather than concentrated on one site.

Plant a town water scheme runs

Backhoe loaders do the bulk of the work here, and that is unusual. Town pipe laying is a backhoe job from start to finish: trenching in confined lanes, lowering pipe, backfilling and working around service crossings where a larger machine simply will not fit. A contractor holding several backhoes has a real advantage on these packages.

Excavators come in on the treatment plant and reservoir foundations and on the deeper rising main sections. Tippers move spoil out of the towns, which on a congested network is a bigger logistics problem than the digging. Cranes handle reservoir shuttering and staging, concrete supply serves the plant and reservoir structures, and small rollers and compactors do the trench backfill and road reinstatement that follows the pipe crews.

How to apply

1. Open the official portal: Bihar e-Procurement, via the Central Public Procurement Portal.
2. Search by the tender ID of the town you want, for example 2026_Governme_137222_1 for Samastipur, under Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation.
3. Register on the portal and keep a valid Class III digital signature certificate ready.
4. Download the NIT, the standard bid document and the BOQ for that town. Four of the five have been amended, so check the corrigenda for revised dates and financial sheets.
5. Submit your bid online before the closing date for that town. Withdrawal is not permitted afterwards.
