Backhoe Loader (JCB) Glass Price: Front, Door, Side and Excavator Cab Glass

A front windscreen for a backhoe loader is listed at about ₹4,000, and a door or side glass at about ₹1,100 to ₹1,200 a piece, going by seller listings in India checked on 29 September 2026; those listings name the JCB 3DX, the model most sellers cut glass for. Excavator front glass is listed higher, at about ₹6,000 to ₹7,000 a piece.

Most people call a backhoe loader a JCB, but CASE, Mahindra, Tata Hitachi, ACE, Bull, Caterpillar and other makes all sell closed-cab machines in India, and each has its own glass. Which glass panels does a backhoe loader or excavator cab have?

Backhoe loader cab

A closed backhoe loader cab has a large front windscreen, two doors with glass (on many models the door glass is split into an upper and a lower part), fixed side glass behind the doors, and a rear glass that swings up so the operator can see the backhoe end. Each is a separate part, so a broken door glass does not mean a new windscreen.

Excavator cab

An excavator cab has an upper front glass that can usually slide up into the roof, a smaller lower front glass, a door glass, a side glass on the right, a rear glass, and a roof window over the operator’s head. The roof window on many cabs is a tough clear plastic panel under a steel guard, not glass.

Wheel loader, crane and other cabs

Wheel loaders, pick-and-carry (hydra) cranes, motor graders and telehandlers with a closed cab use the same two kinds of safety glass, cut to each maker’s own frame. Open-canopy machines have no glass at all. Does cab glass from one make fit another?

No. Every maker draws its own cab, so the windscreen of one backhoe loader is a different shape and size from another’s, even though the machines do the same work. You can see it in the published cab heights: of the 51 backhoe loaders we list, 47 publish the figure, and it ranges from 2,700 mm to 3,034 mm.

This is a general guide based on machine size class. Always confirm the fit with your machine’s operator manual or the manufacturer before buying or fitting.

Toughened or laminated glass: which one is used where?

Toughened glass is heat-treated. It is several times stronger than plain glass, and when it does break it bursts into small, blunt cubes that are less likely to cut. Laminated glass is two sheets of glass bonded to a clear plastic layer. When it cracks, the pieces stay stuck to that layer, so the panel stays in the frame and keeps out stones and dust.

On the listings we checked, sellers describe backhoe loader windscreens, door glass and side glass as toughened glass, 4 to 6 mm thick. Some excavator front windscreens are listed as laminated. The simplest way to know what your machine has, whatever the make, is the small stamp in one corner of each panel, which names the glass type and the standard it meets. Replace a panel with the same type and thickness.

For a machine that is registered and driven on the road, Rule 100 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules asks for safety glass to Indian Standard IS 2553 (Part 2) in the windscreen and rear window, letting through at least 70 percent of light, and at least 50 percent in the side windows. Plain window glass cut to size does not meet that rule.

What is the price of backhoe loader and excavator cab glass?

These are listed prices for new panels from sellers on IndiaMART, checked on 29 September 2026.

The rear glass, the panels for other makes and the glass for wheel loader and crane cabs are usually priced only on request, so ask two or three glass shops for a quote with the make, model and panel named. Check whether the price includes the rubber moulding that holds the glass in the frame; one excavator glass seller lists its panels with the moulding included. None of the listings stated a fitting charge, so ask for it in the same quote.

What cracks cab glass, and how can you avoid it?

• Stones thrown up by the bucket or a rock breaker. Excavators doing breaker or demolition work are safer with a front guard, a steel mesh or bar frame over the front glass.
• A door left unlatched while travelling. Backhoe doors are meant to be locked open against their catch or fully closed; a swinging door hits the cab frame and breaks its glass.
• Loose cab mounts or a twisted cab frame. A cab that moves on its mounts puts load on the glass edges. Tighten or replace worn mounts when the glass starts to crack from a corner.
• Hard, perished rubber. Old rubber moulding stops cushioning the glass and lets it rattle and chip. Change the rubber when you change the glass.
• Cold water on hot glass. Splashing cold water on a windscreen that has stood in the afternoon sun can crack it. Let it cool, or wash it in the morning.

Can you keep working with a cracked cab glass?

We did not find a rule that sets a crack size you are allowed to drive with. The practical answer is this: a crack in the operator’s line of sight, or one that makes the panel loose in its rubber, needs replacing now. The operator cannot judge the bucket, the trench edge or people nearby through it, and a toughened panel that is already cracked can burst without warning.

A small chip at the edge of a laminated windscreen can wait for a planned stop, as long as it is not spreading. When you buy a used machine, count cracked or missing glass as a cost; the used equipment inspection checklist covers the rest of the cab.
