Which machines handle construction chemicals on site?

Much of what the first table lists is applied by hand. Tile adhesive and grout go on with trowels and floats, sealant with a gun, and waterproofing coatings with a brush or roller. Machines enter the picture with admixtures, which seven of the 11 makers list.

Admixtures are dosed into the mix at the batching plant or in the mixer drum, so concrete mixers and transit mixers carry the dosed mix to site. A retarder slows the set on a long haul in hot weather, and a plasticiser makes the mix easier to place. Some sites add a further dose to the drum on arrival and mix it in before discharge.

Concrete pumps can only move a mix that flows without separating. A stiff or split mix blocks the line, and the right admixture helps the pump run clean. Wheel loaders keep the batching plant’s hoppers full of sand and aggregate, and a steady feed helps the plant make the same mix every time, which is what lets an admixture do its job.

How do contractors choose a supplier of construction chemicals?

Start with distance. Freight is paid on every drum and bag, so a maker with a plant in or next to your state shortens the haul, and the state table shows who that is for your site.

Next, check delivery. A pour planned for Monday cannot wait for a late consignment, so ask how quickly the maker or its dealer can resupply and where the nearest stock sits.

Ask for the batch test certificate and check the manufacturing date and shelf life on the pack.
