Railway Over Bridge Tender: Six ROBs in Punjab and Jammu

Northern Railway has bundled six road over bridges into one ₹383.39 crore railway over bridge tender spanning the Ambala and Jammu divisions, closing 17 September 2026.

Six crossings, one contract

Instead of tendering each structure on its own, Northern Railway’s Rail Structure Project engineering office has put six road over bridges into a single package. Three sit on the Ludhiana to Dhuri section of Ambala division: a two lane ROB replacing level crossing 42 at km 44.466, another replacing level crossing 43 at km 45.657, and a third at km 18.186 between Kila Raipur and Ahmadgarh stations replacing level crossing 16A, this one built at railway cost. A fourth replaces level crossing S-4 at km 4/5-6 between the BHRL and SJNP stations of Jammu division. Each includes the low height subway alongside it. One thing to note on the listing: the location field simply reads India. That is the bid receipt address for a central railway office, not the work site. The bridges themselves are in Punjab and in the Jammu region, which is what determines your mobilisation, your labour and your material sources.

Why a bundle changes the maths

Six structures across two divisions is a logistics contract as much as a bridge contract. Sites in Ludhiana district and sites in Jammu division are several hundred kilometres apart, so plant either gets duplicated or moved on a schedule that has to work around railway traffic blocks at every location. The upside is that one mobilisation covers six jobs and a single set of casting and launching gear can be cycled through them.

The estimate is ₹383.39 crore with an earnest money deposit of ₹7,66,77,800, which is 2 per cent of the estimate almost to the rupee. There is no tender fee. That combination of a substantial EMD and a nil fee is normal for IREPS railway works and should not be read as anything unusual.

Plant for six ROBs at once

Piling rigs for the pier and abutment foundations, and on six sites you want more than one. Crawler cranes and hydra cranes for pier caps, bearings and girder placement, with a launching arrangement for spans over the running lines. Excavators and tippers handle foundation spoil and the approach embankments, which on a road over bridge is a serious earthwork volume in its own right. Soil compactors and rollers build the approaches up in layers, then pavers and tandem rollers finish the road surface. Batching plants, transit mixers and concrete pumps run at whichever cluster of sites is active. Work near live tracks happens in sanctioned blocks, so night lighting and standby generators are part of the kit.
