L&T vendor registration for construction work is done online, at no cost, on the L&T Construction Partner Portal (partners.lntecc.com). A machine owner signs up under the primary business Service Provider and the business type Equipment Hiring Contractor. A subcontractor picks Regular Labour Sub-Contractor or Specialised Contractors with Labour/Material and P&M. The form takes your PAN, a contact person and your work categories. L&T’s terms then list the papers it can ask for, from GST and three years of CA-certified turnover to a notarised certificate that no government body has blacklisted you. The portal warns that L&T charges no fee to onboard partners. Being registered gets you considered for limited tenders in your category. It does not promise an order.
A hire firm owner walks into an L&T highway site office with the papers for two 20-tonne excavators, because the site has fallen behind on earthwork. The P&M engineer likes the rate, then asks one question: does the firm have an L&T vendor code? It does not. As on 1 November 2026, the answer to that question sits on a single portal, and the rest of this guide walks through it.
Where L&T vendor registration happens
Supplier and contractor registration for L&T Construction, the group’s engineering and construction arm, runs on the Partner Portal. The lntecc.com website links to it from a “Partner Portal” menu item. The group website, larsentoubro.com, showed no supplier or vendor page in its sitemap or contact page on 1 November 2026. The portal’s home page carries four documents: a registration guide, the Code of Conduct for Suppliers, a whistle blower policy for vendors and a sustainable supply chain policy.
The form’s “Partner For” list has 35 entries. Larsen & Toubro Limited, Construction is the first, followed by L&T GeoStructure, L&T Hydrocarbon Engineering, overseas units and many project joint ventures. Pick the company that will issue your order. The form also states that registration is only for new vendors, and existing vendors should contact their L&T contact person.
Which business type fits a hire firm or subcontractor?
For L&T Construction the portal offers three primary businesses: Customer, Service Provider and Supplier. A Supplier then chooses Manufacturer, Distributor or Retailer. A Service Provider gets five business types, and this choice decides how L&T files you.
| Business type (Service Provider) | Code | Who it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Regular Labour Sub-Contractor | LC | Labour gangs for shuttering, masonry, steel fixing |
| Specialised Contractors with Labour/Material and P&M | SC | A scope such as earthwork or piling with your own machines and crew |
| Equipment Hiring Contractor | EHC | Owners renting out excavators, loaders, cranes and rollers |
| Professional Services Contractor | PSC | Survey, testing, consultancy |
| Transportation Services Contractor | TSC | Tippers, trailers and material haulage |
Below the business type sit the categories. The Service Provider list has 90 of them on the portal, including P&M Hiring, Rental, Earthwork (General/Road Works), Piling, Quarrying & Crushing and Underground Excavation. Earthwork alone has 21 sub-categories, from excavation and roadway excavation to backfilling, road embankment and transportation of soil. In the same list, empanelment is flagged as applicable to works categories such as Earthwork and Piling, and not applicable to P&M Hiring or Rental. The portal describes empanelment as qualifying partners to do business for a defined period with pre-approved values for a specific business category.
Choose with care. L&T’s registration guide says changing the company profile or business profile later is “impossible”: you would have to request deletion of the registration and start again. Its own advice is to check with the site person or your L&T contact before you select.
The L&T vendor registration form, step by step
The L&T new vendor registration guide splits the form into four sections, and each must show a green tick before you move on.
- KYP details: country, national ID type, organisation name and, for India, your PAN. Click “Verify PAN”. A “PAN Already Exists” error means the firm is already registered, and the guide sends you to the portal support team.
- Contact details: the coordinating person’s name, designation, mobile number and email. Use ones you check daily, since OTPs and the activation email go there, and changing them later delays the registration.
- Business profile: the L&T company, primary business, business type, primary category and sub-category, a key category, and an optional secondary business.
- Credentials: a username and a password of at least 8 characters with a capital letter, a small letter, a number and a special character. The guide tells you to remember both, because without them the further process cannot go on.
You then accept the terms and click Register. An OTP comes to your mobile and email; if it fails, log in later and the check appears again. An activation link follows by email, and only after activating and logging in does onboarding start, which is the longer part. The onboarding screens collect GST details with proofs, bank details and a declaration on income-tax return filing. Hire bills attract TDS, and the guide to TDS on machinery hire charges covers the rates. The portal also warns that access to L&T’s EIP system lapses if the profile is not completed within the due date. No number of days is published.
What documents L&T can ask for
Clause 3 of L&T’s partner registration terms, the same text for suppliers and service providers, says you are registered as a vendor subject to these papers being complete:
- GST number (the text still says TIN/GST), PAN, and a trade licence or factory licence
- Memorandum and articles, certificate of incorporation, partnership deed or registrar of firms certificate
- Registration with GeM, or any proof of it
- A dealership agreement with an SSI/NSIC certificate, where you are a dealer
- Audited balance sheet or profit and loss account for three years, and an annual turnover certificate for three years from a CA firm
- ISO certificate, if any
- A notarised certificate that no central or state government body, PSU, university or institute has blacklisted you in the past three years
- Certificates for electrical and civil work, and licences for labour or works contracts on special projects
Clause 7 adds that an MSME-registered firm must tell L&T in writing before registration is complete. L&T can ask for anything else “from time to time”. The everyday folder a site team asks for, from machine RC and insurance to the operator’s licence, is covered in the hub guide on working with an EPC contractor, so it is not repeated here.
Is L&T vendor registration free?
Yes. The Partner Portal home page carries this caution in full view:
“It has come to our notice that certain fraudulent individuals are offering schemes under the name of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) to enroll you as our partners and are attempting to solicit fees or other forms of payment for this purpose. Please note that L&T DOES NOT solicit any payments or fees to onboard partners neither have we authorised any website, entity, platform or individual to represent us to make any such offers.”
So anyone selling an “L&T vendor code” or a paid registration is not acting for L&T. The portal publishes no phone number for registration. Its contact section gives only the L&T Construction address at Mount Poonamallee Road, Manapakkam, Chennai 600 089. For software and system faults, the portal points registered partners to a helpdesk request inside L&T’s EIP system.
What registration gets you, and what it does not
Clause 5 of the terms is blunt. A registered partner “qualifies for consideration for issue of tender papers in case of limited tenders” in its own category, and the registration “will not give you any right to claim for award of work/purchase order”. L&T may reject any application without reasons. Once in, you see requests for quotation through the portal’s e-sourcing module, which shows RFQs by your eligible categories. L&T also evaluates each partner on performance measures across projects.
The terms also let L&T suspend, debar or blacklist a partner without notice for breaking its terms or the law, and end a registration for insolvency, false information or persistent delays on its orders. Disputes over registration go to a sole arbitrator appointed by L&T, seated in Chennai. Rates, idle days and payment cycles sit in the hire order itself; the guide to a subcontractor agreement in India covers those clauses.
The supplier code of conduct you sign
Version 5.0 of L&T’s Code of Conduct for Suppliers took effect in October 2026, with the next review due in April 2029. It covers contractors, sub-contractors and vendors along with their own staff and sub-contractors. Each supplier gives a one-time declaration (Annexure I, addressed to the Head of Procurement), and L&T’s procurement teams add a code clause to every purchase order.
For a small hire or labour firm, the clauses that bite are practical. Zero tolerance for child labour and forced labour. Wages, overtime and working hours as per law, for your staff and your sub-contractors. Safety training and incident records for operators. Gifts only of nominal value, never cash, gold or precious stones. L&T keeps the right to audit you. A breach can end the contract, and complaints go to the Vendor Whistle Blower Committee in Powai, Mumbai, or to VWBC@larsentoubro.com.
Machines an L&T site hires in
No list of the machines L&T hires is published, so look at the work. Highway, metro and water packages need 20-tonne excavators for bulk earthwork, which is the class of the Tata Hitachi EX 200LC Prime (20,100 kg, 0.9 to 1.17 cubic metre bucket, 131 HP, about Rs 55–63 lakh, indicative, as of Nov 2026). Drains, utility shifting and camp work fall to a backhoe loader such as the JCB 3DX (49 HP, 1.0 cubic metre shovel, about Rs 28–32 lakh, indicative, as of Nov 2026). Material handling around casting yards uses pick-and-carry cranes like the ACE NX 360 15T (15-tonne capacity, 18.2 m boom height, about Rs 32–36 lakh, indicative, as of Nov 2026).
A big-site deployment can tie a machine up for months. If one more unit would let you take a package, price the equipment finance against the hire rate before you register a capacity you cannot supply.
The question to ask L&T’s site procurement team
Before you fill the business profile, ask the site’s P&M or procurement in-charge: “Under which L&T company, business type and category should I register so your project can send me RFQs, and does this job need empanelment or any project-level approval before the first work order?” The answer saves you a deleted registration. Then match the machine to the scope: compare current excavator models and prices before you commit a fleet to an L&T package.
Facts come from the L&T Construction Partner Portal home and registration pages, the “How to Register as a new Vendor” guide, the partner registration terms and category lists shown by the portal, and the Code of Conduct for Suppliers version 5.0, as read on 1 November 2026. Machine prices are indicative and vary by variant, location and date. Portal steps, categories and terms change. Confirm the current position with L&T’s site procurement team or the official source on the Partner Portal before you register or sign a hire order. DesiMachines is not liable for decisions a contractor takes on information that may have changed after publication.
