Many contractors treat MECON vendor registration as the gate to MECON site work, but the papers point the other way. The registration is an online supplier register in two groups, oil and gas and non-oil and gas, open for new applications since 15 November 2025 with renewals running as usual. Civil and EPC site work goes by tender on Tender Wizard: an October 2026 MECON civil tender in Ranchi asked for PAN, GST, PF, ESI, Rs 38 lakh average turnover and completed similar work, and no MECON vendor code. MECON publishes no registration fee, document list or validity period on its vendor page.

MECON Limited is a Ranchi-based engineering consultancy and contracting company under the Ministry of Steel. Its EOI documents trace it back to 1959 and the Central Engineering and Design Bureau. Most of its tenders come from big plant jobs: rebuilding coke oven batteries at SAIL’s Bokaro plant, Stamp Charged Battery No. 12 at IISCO Burnpur, and expansion work for NMDC at Bacheli. MECON’s tender page sorts them into four types: EPC (jobs where MECON is the EPC contractor), CLIENT (tenders floated for clients), TACD (its own township, hospital and guest houses at Ranchi) and PURCHASE (in-house buying).

What is MECON vendor registration?

It is MECON’s list of suppliers. The Vendor Registration page on the MECON website carries a short table and a link to an online registration application. In the copy archived on 21 May 2026, the table showed two rows: new registration for the oil and gas sector, and new registration for the non-oil and gas sector. Both opened on 15 November 2025 and were marked “Open Period”, with no closing date. Two notes sit under the table. Oil and gas items are processed by MECON’s Delhi office, and applications for that group stay open all year. Renewal for vendors whose registration has expired, or will expire soon, carries on as usual.

The windows have changed over the years, which explains the many “renewal” searches.

Period What MECON’s vendor page showed Status
2018 (copy of October 2019) Four quarterly windows: 15 Jan to 14 Apr and 15 Jul to 14 Oct open, the other two quarters closed Open half the year
2024-25 (copies of June and October 2025) New registration, non-oil and gas: 18 Jul 2024 to 17 Oct 2024 One window
From 15 Nov 2025 (copies of January and May 2026) New registration, oil and gas, and new registration, non-oil and gas Open Period, no end date
All years Oil and gas group via Delhi office; renewals Open all year

The live MECON website did not load from our test machine on 1 November 2026, so the May 2026 copy is the latest we could read. Check the MECON vendor registration page for the current window before you apply.

Who qualifies, and what MECON does not publish

The page names no eligible trades, so read the tender lists. MECON’s EPC buying is heavy plant equipment and material for steel and mining jobs. Of the 19 distinct tenders on its Tender Wizard latest-tenders list on 1 November 2026, most were supply or supply-and-erect packages: standard pipe for Burnpur, EOT and gantry cranes, dry gunniting machines with portable air compressors for Bokaro, balance steel structures, an electrostatic tar precipitator, dust suppression, and electrical and instrumentation packages. A manufacturer or fabricator in those lines is the vendor the register is built for.

What MECON does not show is the detail. Its vendor page states no registration fee, no document list and no validity period, and the registration application did not open for us. We have left those facts out instead of guessing. The vendor menu also links a list of banned and suspended vendors, a call-for-inspection page, a bill tracking page and MECON’s TReDS registration details. MSME vendors get one standing advice: obtain ZED and Lean certification under the Ministry of MSME notification of 4 February 2025.

MECON login and portals: three different doors

Searches for “MECON vendor registration login” mix up three systems. The vendor registration application holds your supplier profile. E-tenders run on MECON’s Tender Wizard portal, where you register separately, pay a non-refundable processing fee online and sign with a Class III digital signature. Tender Wizard told users that from 19 September 2026 every new or renewed DSC must sit on a FIPS 140-3 compliant USB token. Some MECON service bids run on GeM instead: in late October 2026 MECON had a topographical survey and geotechnical job at Atal Nagar, Nava Raipur, worth Rs 25.11 lakh, and a coastal stability study for Kalpakkam on GeM. The guide to GeM registration for contractors covers that seller profile.

What MECON tenders asked for in October 2026

None of these documents asks the bidder to hold a MECON vendor registration. Each sets its own turnover and experience test.

Tender (2026) Average turnover Similar work EMD Processing fee
11.74.Bandminton Court/020, Shyamali Colony, Ranchi (23 Oct) Rs 38 lakh 1 job of Rs 38 lakh, 2 of Rs 30 lakh or 3 of Rs 23 lakh in 7 years Rs 20,000 Rs 1,180
Geotechnical agencies EOI, Category II (6 Oct) Rs 15 lakh 1 job of Rs 7.5 lakh, 2 of Rs 6 lakh or 3 of Rs 4.5 lakh Nil Rs 1,180
Geotechnical agencies EOI, Category I (6 Oct) Rs 1.5 crore 1 job of Rs 75 lakh, 2 of Rs 60 lakh or 3 of Rs 45 lakh Nil Rs 1,180
NMDC BE-03, roads and haul roads, Bacheli (5 Oct) Rs 206 crore 1 job of Rs 360 crore, 2 of Rs 210 crore or 3 of Rs 150 crore in 10 years Rs 3.87 crore Rs 1,770

The processing fees include 18% GST and go to the portal operator online, not to MECON.

A small Ranchi civil job, read line by line

The badminton court is a MECON CSR job at Shyamali Colony, built up to plinth level in five months. Bids close on 17 November 2026 at 16:00 on Tender Wizard, after a pre-bid meeting scheduled for 27 October at MECON’s Purchase and Stores section. The cost of the tender document is nil. The EMD of Rs 20,000 goes as a demand draft or bank guarantee, delivered in physical form within five days of technical opening. Consortium bids are refused.

Read the similar-work definition before anything else. It counts construction or renovation of residential, commercial, institutional, industrial or sports buildings involving RCC. Work done only on roads, drains or canals does not count, so a road contractor with Rs 50 lakh of paving behind him fails this test. Completion certificates must show the value done in the last seven years. A private client’s certificate needs TDS certificates with it.

The commercial papers are PAN, GSTIN, PF and ESI registration where applicable, plus audited balance sheets for the three years to 31 March 2026, with the CA’s membership number and UDIN. Registered MSEs are exempt from EMD, and MECON asks them to show their registration on the Central Public Procurement Portal. The successful bidder must also hold a GeM seller ID when the order is placed.

The bill of quantities explains the machines. It carries 880 cubic metres of excavation, “by mechanical means (hydraulic excavator)” or by hand, 616 cubic metres of backfill rammed in 20 cm layers, and 245 cubic metres of pumped M25 ready-mix. That is a backhoe job for something like the JCB 3DX, which digs to 4.77 m and costs about Rs 28.5 to 33.5 lakh (indicative, as of Nov 2026).

MECON’s open empanelment: geotechnical agencies

The nearest thing to a contractor register at MECON in 2026 is a service panel. EOI 11.51.2026/91CO/GI/Empanelment, dated 6 October 2026, invites geotechnical investigation agencies for three years. Category I covers jobs of Rs 30 lakh to Rs 3 crore excluding GST, and Category II jobs under Rs 30 lakh. Empanelled agencies are likely to get future MECON geotechnical jobs anywhere in India on limited tender, without a fresh technical check each time. MECON keeps the right to tender any job openly.

The bar is set by equipment and staff. Category I wants at least six owned shell boring rigs, three hydraulic rock core drilling rigs and two of four field test sets, plus a senior geotechnical engineer with 15 years’ experience on the payroll. Category II wants four boring rigs and two rock core rigs. Similar work means industrial plant or long-bridge investigations; transport, water supply and pipeline jobs are excluded. MSEs get a 15% turnover relaxation, and 20% for SC/ST and women-owned MSEs. Tender Wizard showed the document window open to 3 November 2026, later than the 27 October date in the EOI, after a corrigendum of 27 October.

Client tenders: the NMDC Bacheli road package

When MECON acts as consultant, the bid is with MECON but the contract is with its client. Tender BE-03/2026/01 of 5 October 2026 covers the main road, haul roads and illumination at NMDC’s Bacheli complex in Chhattisgarh, issued by MECON for NMDC. It is a domestic open tender with 18 months to finish. Similar work must include all three of: a new road (7 m wide for 10 km, 14 m for 5 km or 21 m for 3.5 km), a mine haul road of at least 1.5 km, and one road over bridge. A consortium of up to three is allowed, with the lead taking 50%.

The bid also asks for a list of plant and machinery. A machine owner will usually reach this work as a sub-contractor to the main bidder, with a 20-tonne crawler such as the Tata Hitachi EX 210LC Prime (about Rs 57 to 68 lakh, indicative, as of Nov 2026) on haul road cuts and an 11-tonne single-drum roller like the Volvo SD110 (about Rs 36 to 42 lakh, indicative, as of Nov 2026) on subgrade. Price the machine against NMDC’s own rules, which the NMDC vendor registration guide covers, and line up equipment finance before you commit. Steel-plant packages at Bokaro and Burnpur follow the route in the SAIL vendor registration guide.

Figures come from MECON’s vendor registration and tender pages (archived copies of 2019 to June 2026), MECON’s Tender Wizard list and the tender documents for 11.74.Bandminton Court/020, EOI 11.51.2026/91CO/GI/Empanelment and NMDC BE-03/2026/01, and GeM bids GEM/2026/B/8165227 and GEM/2026/B/8193815, read on 1 November 2026. Machine prices are indicative and vary by variant, location and date. Rules, fees and tender terms change.
