Which mining machines do buyers ask about most?

The order follows the enquiries buyers sent us over the last four months, with no more than two models from one brand.

Which brands make these machines?

The brands with the most models listed in these classes. Each name opens that brand's range.

Where is mining work concentrated in India?

Mining follows the mineral, so the work sits in belts, not evenly across the map. Coal comes mainly from Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra. Iron ore is mined in Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Jharkhand and Goa.

Limestone for cement runs through Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Gujarat. Odisha has the largest bauxite reserves, Rajasthan has the zinc and lead, and the lignite is in Tamil Nadu, Gujarat and Rajasthan. Stone quarries for aggregate sit near every large city, while the granite and marble belts run through Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan.

For a machine owner the belt matters because that is where the contract work, the hire demand and the buyers for a used machine are. Each state page lists the machines, dealers and tenders for that state.

Who are the big mine owners and contract miners in India?

Mine owners buy the largest machines themselves. Contract miners, called mine developers and operators (MDOs), and the sub-contractors under them buy and hire most of the rest, which is where a fleet owner usually finds work. The list is alphabetical, not a ranking.

Company What it mines or does
Adani Enterprises Mine developer and operator for coal blocks allotted to state power utilities
Coal India State-owned; the country’s largest coal producer, working through subsidiaries such as SECL, MCL, NCL and CCL

JSW Steel Iron ore mines in Karnataka and Odisha that feed its own steel plants
NLC India State-owned; lignite mines at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu and at Barsingsar in Rajasthan

Frequently asked questions

Which machines are used in mining in India?

Surface mines run on large tracked excavators, heavy dozers, wheel loaders, motor graders and compactors, with haul trucks and drilling rigs alongside. DesiMachines lists the first five; haul trucks and drilling rigs are not listed here.

What size excavator does a mine use?

Large mines load with excavators above 50 tonne. Contractors on overburden removal, haul-road and quarry work more often run machines in the 20 to 50 tonne range.

Where can I see mining tenders that are open now?

The tender list on this page shows mining, coal and earthwork packages that are still open, closing soonest first. It is rebuilt twice a day, and the tenders page carries every open tender.

How are mining machines priced?

Most machines above 50 tonne are quoted on request, because the bucket, undercarriage and boom are configured for the site. Where a machine has a listed price it is shown on its card; ask for a written quotation against your own site conditions.

Can I finance or insure a machine for this work through DesiMachines?

The finance page compares lenders and lets you work out an EMI, and the insurance page explains what a machine policy covers. Both are linked on this page.
